LIFE Forest Fit for Future

LIFE ForFit carries out activities on approx. 220 sites in 85 forests. The focal point of the project is a the conversion of 3,800 hectares of state forest and 400 hectares of private forest into more varied and climate-robust forests. The methods will be natural rejuvenation and supplementary planting of additional tree species and  introduction of more native deciduous trees. In addition, 85 ha of new forest will be established on agricultural land  (afforestation) according to the principles of close to nature forestry.

The project also supports the development of management tools for close-to-nature forestry such as growth models and economic models, cost-effective CO2 and biodiversity indicators as well as training materials and courses  directed at all levels in the professional forestry sector.
